| History | |
The Churches Affiliated Child Care Center, Inc. was created in 1988 as a mission of outreach by seven area churches to provide quality, state licensed child care to the community at affordable prices. The program began with one site and eight children at the Camp Hill United Methodist Church. Now with the help of affiliated churches, we have the capability to serve over 250 children at two childcare centers and four school-age programs. Our main site is in the Camp Hill United Methodist Church, where we serve sixty-five children ages six weeks through six years in six classrooms. Our Camp Hill center also houses our school-aged summer camp program, serving more than eighty children each summer. Our Enola center, which was previously housed in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church and the Enola First Church of God, relocated in 2002 to 110 Altoona Avenue in Enola. This program has a capacity of 70 children ages six weeks through five years in seven classrooms. CACCC, Inc. has also been responsible for the implementation and operation of the Before and After School Programs offered to students in the Camp Hill School District since the fall of 1994. In 1999 and 2002, third and fourth locations for school-aged programs were added at the South Mountain Elementary School and the Wellsville Elementary School in Dillsburg. Our school-aged capacity is approximately 120 students. CACCC, Inc. greatly benefits from the active participation of its affiliated churches. Camp Hill United Methodist Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Timothy Church, and Mt. Calvary Episcopal Church all located in Camp Hill, as well as St. Peter Lutheran Church of Mechanicsburg and the Enola First Church of God are instrumental to the success of the program. A Board of Directors governs the Churches Affiliated Child Care Center, Inc. The Board is made up of two representatives from each of the affiliated churches. Each participating church elects their members to represent their interests and to provide the center with a governing body. The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the program in its entirety. Some issues addressed by the Board on a regular basis include personnel, finance, fundraising, and program. The Churches Affiliated Child Care Center, Inc. prides itself on being able to provide quality child care to so many families at the most reasonable rates possible. Priority is given to families with demonstrated financial need who may not be able to afford the tuition charged by for-profit child care programs. A scholarship program, funded by the participating churches and annual fundraisers, helps to subsidize the tuition for families in need. It is our mission to provide quality childcare and peace of mind to working parents in our community. We continue to explore new ways to fulfill our mission by expanding and improving our existing programs. |
